Education at Fontys University of Applied Sciences is placed in an international context, Fontys programmes are to be recognised as programmes of higher education with international professional perspectives. Student and staff mobility is actively stimulated, as well as internationalisation of the curricula and internationalisation at home. International transparency is provided through a European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
The name ‘Fontys’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Fons’ which means ‘source’. Fontys aspires to be a dynamic source of knowledge, development, innovation and inspiration.
Fontys participates in different international consortia and Fontys is active in international contract activities. A growing number of programmes is offered in English or in German, open to foreign students.
At Fontys University of Applied Sciences, it is possible to follow almost all higher professional education programmes at bachelor’s and master’s level available anywhere in the Netherlands. The university offers programmes in Health Care and Social Work, Economics, Business and Communication, Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, Logistics and Transport, and Education. Programmes can be followed in numerous locations.
All programmes are focused on professional practice in a modern society. This focus is expressed through practical lessons, practice placements, also abroad, and the use of modern information and communications technology in education.
The programmes are offered in one of the 22 locations in the Netherlands, concentrating primarily in the southern part of the country. Major campuses are in Eindhoven, Tilburg, , Venlo, Sittard . Smaller establishments are in Roermond, Zwolle, Rotterdam, Veghel, Amsterdam and 's-Hertogenbosch.
